First of all, in many areas, the mailboxes are located on the roadside, using parish or city easement. Secondly, there's no law against having someone replace your mailbox when it's damaged by them. If the driver has insurance, it will generally pay for it. Thirdly, I'd much rather replace my wooden mailbox post than know that someone lost their life because they hit my concrete post.
