If someone was robbing me, I'd rather shoot him (not necessarily kill him) than lose my money. I wouldn't need to kill him, I'd just need to hurt him to the point where he would no longer be a threat and I would no longer be in danger of him hurting or killing me. How do I know he isn't planning to shoot me as soon as he takes the money? I would never kill someone in a situation like this unless I had to to stop them from killing me or some other innocent person. And if they were, you bet I'd kill them if I had to.
