I think the Democrats are better off abstaining from foreign entanglements. Their forte was in domestic policy, not foreign policy, when they were running massive surpluses.

The Republicans already have ample claim to being incumbents who have no solutions to US socioeconomic issues, and have to resort to forms of anarchy, when the UN has a legal and moral mandate to promote and provide for the general Welfare of any red states external to the US.

According to Aristotle, "Poverty is the parent of revolution and crime." Since revolution and crime can be considered forms of terrorism, why would anyone want to sponsor terrorism, for free? Isn't it better to simply pay people to be more market friendly and less privateering or terroristic? Having massive surpluses in the public treasury would make it much more convenient to implement better public policy.
