You don't understand imagery.
Sick Child on the one hand, Democrats trying to get that sick child some medical care. Republicans (fat, bloated in waistcoats with top hats, clutching money bags) screaming that the money is theirs and the children should be allowed to die.
That's imagery, that's a wedge issue, you direct that at your evangelical voters, who have been overwhelmingly GOP lately, coupled with a picture of your GOP candidate (most likely a guy on his second or third marriage ), with some scripture about taking care of the poor, and you carve out a piece of that vote.
This is what the GOP has done so successfully in the past, Reagans morning in America, Bush's "Willie Horton" ads, and W's numerous photo ops.
Now the Dems are finally getting it, instead of reams of facts and figures that may impress a PhD, but leaves the NASCAR crowd scratching their heads in bewilderment, the Dems are coming at them with an image of a sick child.
Hillary is doing this across the board on almost every issue, college, retirement health care, the issues the GOP has been fear mongering on, she is hope mongering.
Social Security is a fear issue with the GOP, they give you the image of old people eating out of dumpsters, Hillary puts out her government assisted savings plan, she gives the people the GOP is scaring hope.
People are terrified over health care, they feel shackled to health plans that more and more put the burden on them, and the GOP message is that even the Federal Government that can blow god knows how many trillion dollars in Iraq, can't afford to care for sick children, Hillary and Democrats offer the message of hope.
