Nobody said that you should walk away with your head down - after all you got your pride to look after right? The appropriate response would be to yell some things at the offender IMO. According to the law you are not allowed to defend yourself physically against a non-physical attack - IE hitting someone for spitting on your daughter or calling you names. People who carry a gun are supposed to do
anything possible to avoid a
violent conflict, because it might turn out that they'll need to draw their gun and fire.
