aye mate, i agree with absolutely everythin' ye just wrote, aye!!!!

i just don't be believin' that mankind has it within' his capacity to change in the manner you described. i look at the looming water crises in georgia...the bigger looming water crises in the american west....the environmental lunacy in china...and don't even get me started on the horrors texaco has visited upon africa...the vanishing everglades (that we were supposed to fix, i thought)...lordy.

thar be too much $$$$ to pick up, and as we so often hear, "well, we do need to do fix ______, but not at the cost of hurtin' our economy and our ability to compete".

but aye, i still do hold out hope for a magic bullet to save us, at one point (i'll probably be dead when the crises truly occurs, so me concern for this is kinda vague, as i have me no kids, so im not too worried about the legacy that our ways leave behind).

i can see a number 'o things happening to succor the hurts that have been dealt the world.

- we could have a biological war, the kind that wipes out 75% of humanity, but leaves the planet intact.
- we could have an outbreak, one that is totally organic in nature (meaning not a man made thing that was used as a weapon) that also decimates the world population.
- we could have a nuclear war, that ends up destroying much of the planet, and having such a ridiculously long half life, that mankind will be set back centuries. maybe nature will fix itself faster than we can get back on our feet.
- or, we could have a silver bullet, courtesy 'o the fine scientists 'o the earth...something that that saves us all.
- or the world as a whole, could suffer the equivelant of a massive stroke. even folks who live lives rich in cholesterol and saturated fat, often find jesus after a quadruple bypass, and live the rest of their days subsisting on high fiber diets, augmented by fresh fruits and steamed vegetables. so maybe a real, horrifyin' scare might change our ways.

these be me hopes fer mankind, long term.
