I think it means shut up, but you'd have to ask Gato to be sure.

Yes Slarti, the king actually uses the informal "you" always. And yeah Donkey, you're right, he said "¿Por qué no te callas?" which means "Why don't you shut up?". In Spanish we use "callas" for "shut up" and "be quiet", but I'm pretty sure the king actually meant "shut up"

I find it interesting how Chavez bloats this all up now. I mean after he called the former Spanish Prime minister several times a fascist (which caused the comment of the King after he tried to fall someone else into the speech for another time as far as I have heard), he should not play the poor victim of the imperialist Spanish king.
Anyhow, the Spanish government has not done the tiniest sign of confrontation, the sole one who does is Chavez. I am not quite sure if he does because of his ego, or because he hopes to impress his largely poor voters. What do you think?

I agree with you. In Spain, this incident hasn't had much impact, except for the surprise it caused to see the king react like that (he's a very calm, jovial and diplomatic person). All that has been said is that the incident has been "unfortunate". On the other hand, in the news, for a week every day, we have seen Chavez making "funny" remarks about the incident and using it in his demagogical speeches to the Venezuelans through his "public" television channel.
