I was 18 at the time, and glued to the TV the entire night watching CBC for the results of the referendum in my small hometown of Hudson, Qc.
The results if I remember correctly were 51.1% No, 49.9% Yes.

I agree with you sentiment. I remember that day myself. But in the west we didn't and don't really care about Quebec's aspirations for national status. I actually support it, and i even support paying taxes to make it happen successfully. Nothing wrong with another nation in NA as far as im concerned.
But that vote was provincial, and it was democracy in action in Quebec, not in Canada. (it was more like corruption in Canada).
