It would certainly seem in this case that the presence of a gun in the hands of a private citizen saved the lives of many.

I know you're only going to focus on the actions of the criminal and say something insipid like "If guns were illegal he wouldn't have had them". This, of course, ignores the fact that they were already illegal for him to possess and murder has been illegal since the dawn of civilization.

Can you suggest a single law which could exist which would prevent something like this from happening and which would not infringe upon the rights of everyone else?
