Obama went to a catholic school in Indonesia, and a state run school, which although Muslim (Indonesia is after all, a Muslim country) included students from various religions.
He probably has a far better understanding of Islam (as in the ordinary everyday variety) than any other political leader in the US, which is would no doubt be an asset if he gets the top job, since this would involve working with leaders from the Muslim world - and other places as well. That he has some understanding of Asia is certainly an advantage.
Obama is not a Muslim. His stepfather was. An ordinary everyday Muslim.
If people can't cope with that - well then maybe the US isn't the beacon of freedom and tolerance it likes to present itself as.
He certainly comes across as rational. It would be nice to see a rational leader 'of the free world'.
