You can solicit business like that. Lawyers are supposed to be close cousins to hookers anyway.

And you can bet he'll pay a big retainer fee if he goes with the real pros in the field. It's a big marketplace given how common DUI is, and unfortunately many attorneys take such cases thinking they are easy pay cases without really knowing the ropes of it as they should and many clients think there isn't anything that can be done and go for the cheapest attorneys. The wise know it isn't a matter of retaining someone under 'cheaper is better' because that is often 'penny wise and pound foolish' and 'you get what you pay for.' The pros know the ins and outs to find ways out if they exist or at least how to minimise the damages. The stakes are big in such cases (loss of driving privileges, prison and expensive classes and treatments, car insurance rates going through the roof, ignition interlock installations, etc--and the stakes go even way up more if you have a Commercial Driver's Licence). It's true what they say: "DUI--you can't afford it."
