Absolutely. Just make sure you never, ever say "I shot to kill him". "I was in fear for my life, and I shot until he was no longer a threat".

Followed by "I want to cooperate and give a statement, after I talk with my lawyer, officer."

It's easy to talk yourself into a world of trouble in those shaky moments after a shooting.
