In principle, I agree with this. The money in those accounts belong to the owners of the accounts. They should be able to do whatever they want with it.

The problem comes with what you allude to above - as soon as the stupid ones use these funds irresponsibly, there's going to be some crying from the bleeding heart sect demanding those who responsibly use their money bail out those who are irresponsible. As our country turns more and more socialist, these cries will become law, further encouraging the stupid to be irresponsible with their own money, because they can rely on the government to use its power to pay for their mistakes with other peoples' money.

So, we're left with a problem: either we let people do what they want with their money, and suffer the consequences of having to pay for the increasing numbers of stupid people; or we forbid people from doing what they want with their money, and suffer the inherent loss of freedom that entails.

Of course, there is a simple solution: let people do what they want with their money, AND let them suffer the consequences of their own poor choices. But that's anathema to a socialist society.

Guess we're stuck with just creating problems and solving them with more problems.
