For Germany the USA is like a seismometer of the societies. If I think of school massacres for example I would be happy if this don't will happen (in no country in the whole world) - but in the moment it happened in the USA in Germany we knew: it will also happen in Germany. It means only that the USA is in some cases faster than other nations and societies and the pulse of time is beating earlier.
