It's rather ironic that Hillary is getting her own medicine from a media that put her on the map in the first place. Without their help she would not be a Senator and would not be a top candidate for President. Without help from the media she wouldn't even be a consideration for office because the media helped her look Presidential in the first place. Now, because she's muddying the Democrat's Presidential nomination process, she is being attacked by them.
It puts in prospective all of the attacks that have been made against Republicans all these years.
In the words of Rock Star Moby after the 2000 election; "We can destroy Bush. If we can't find enough dirt to do this it wouldn't be very hard to just make a bunch of stuff up".

[Emphasis mine] I suspected as much: It's a specific situation to a specific candidate, yet it becomes a generalized term for dirty politics to minimize that actual origin of the term, I suppose.
