But how will McCain win southwestern states if he panders to Latinos? Latinos, by far, are registered as democrats in this election. Unlike white voters they aren't digging their heels in about Obama at the rate uneducated whites are. If McCain takes a hardline on immigration, they will flock to Obama. If he takes a soft line on immigration, he will have trouble with whites in southwestern states.
