Barack's biggest advantage over his main rival is his tremendous volunteer base that is well-positioned, trained and passionate. This what McCain lacks in this election season. Look at the exitement level of both campaigns... McCain is far from the level of volunteer mobilization and contribution that W had enjoyed in 2000 and 04 elections. This might give chicken-hawks lots of headache.
