I'll give you that there were more players than just Nifong in this story, however he was behind it. Two assholes, him and the girl who "accused". And if it comes out that policemen, etc. aided him in what he did, they are assholes too.
While I don't know every detail of this story (its been a while), I will say that while Duke may have jumped the gun in some peoples minds, they were probably working off the same intelligence that others were. Intelligence we now know was BS/misleading. I cant say I blame them too much. I mean...its three rich white boys who attend one of the best universities in the world being accused of raping a black stripper.
Not the best headline and even worse if its followed by "Duke allows the boys to stay, etc." They are going to want to look tough on them, especially if it comes out that the team has already had some trouble.
I don't know, IMO it isn't a liberal thing. Racial relations in this country seem FUBAR at times, and either way you cut it, shit like this does NOT help it.
