It's probably a mixture of both. He made a mistake in judgment and probably wasn't completely honest about the entire situation. With all due respect, you seem to think it is some kind of revelation that he happens to be "just another politician." Interestingly, Obama hasn't been the one going around saying "I am the answer," or "I'm different." He's been rallying people by saying, "
We've got to change Washington." Statements like these have given him a reputation that is far greater than the man himself. I don't necessarily fault him for not coming out and saying, "Whoa guys. Let's slow down here. I'm just another politician." He's been labeled by his fans as something bigger than he is. But I don't think he is necessarily responsible for that label.
