The only thing Really wrong here is that the government is dictating the internal workings of an ostensibly law-abiding private entity. They don't care who gets the little league MVP, or who is the captain of the bowling team, or any number of other things, why should they dictate how a political nominee is selected? After all, if a party has a particularly good/bad method of candidate selection, that can become another factor for voters to consider when deciding who is fit to rob our grandchildren blind.
