I tried to find a poll to back up my argument, but I could only come up with this...
Black President More Likely Than Mormon or Atheist
and this...
Pollster: Would You Vote For a (Fill in the Blank) As President?
Evidently, it's not easy to find a poll that even asks respondents if they would vote for a Muslim. There are probably two glaring reasons as to why this question was omitted. (1) The surveyors assumed that most people would be more than willing to vote for a Muslim, and also assumed that most people would assume this so, like "Christian," they didn't even bother to include it as a choice. (2) The surveyors assumed that virtually no one would be willing to vote for a Muslim.
Option 3 would be that there just aren't that many Muslims in the United States, but both polls included "Atheist" as a choice, and, as this study indicates ( U.S. Religious Affiliation, 2002), there are actually more Muslims in the U.S. than Atheists.
I'm inclined to believe that option #2 is considerably more likely than option #1.

That could be. Yes, the extremist Muslims give ME the eebie jeebies. But, there is clearly none of that extremism evident in BHO. Also, the guy can't win. He was a member of a church with a lunatic, spotlight-whore pastor in a protestant church for 20 years. He's raked over the coals for this. His pastor is a loon, but BHO said those are not his own views. I don't like a lot of what priests say or do either, but I will not change churches.
Now, because he has Muslim relatives, he gets reamed for that.
Because of these two opposing criticisms, I don't care about either, because he clearly can't win with some. So, he writes those off as unwinnable votes and dismisses it as best he can. There may be some that will be susceptible to swing away from him because of it, but there will probably be the same amount of those susceptible to something dear to them to swing toward him for something just as insignificant.
I am hoping this level of criticism washes the overall direction of any swings to a net sum of zero with the susceptible voters who are also swing voters.
