In any event, Pickens' demand does indeed seem like he knew it was impossible, and therefore a foolproof way to weasel out of his pledge. These swift boat guys are questioning his actions in COMBAT. I rather doubt Kerry or anyone else was filming themselves while being shot at, so Pickens' challenge is unmet and he gets to claim his offer was still legitimate.
I tried to get the thread off of Kerry between Alex and myself. I really did. But it seems like it took on a life of its own.

I tried too..but Kerry's military service is still controversial......WRT to the camera - today everyone has a cell phone and a digital camera - so it seems quite reasonable for soldiers to have them and to use them to record things with. But back in the early 70's hardly anyone owned a movie camera. I've never heard of any other Vietnam vet that carried one. That doesn't mean they didn't, but it does demonstrate that the behavior was quite "unusual" at the time. Does that mean he's a liar about his service? Not necessarily, but it shows him to be vainglorious. I think a vainglorious person would be more likely to lie about military exploits.
