They would if they needed to, but they don't. Oil companies aren't philanthropic organizations, they're in business to make money; and they're making record profits. Why in hell would they spend their profits on oil exploration, which may or may not bear fruit?
It's funny how Republicans think oil companies will bail us out of our own energy crisis if we hand them the keys to the city.
Republicans are afraid of real reforms to address our energy needs, their only answer is to make the oil companies richer, well it's pretty obvious where their interests are.
I still think 2010 will mark the beginning to the end of transportation powered by fossil fuel; which makes this whole oil drilling debate a mute issue.
