UN confirms 90 civilians killed in US airstrike

Including 60 children. First the pentagon denied that any civilians were killed, then they said "some" civilians may have been killed but still claim the strike was "legitimate." Isn't there someone with enough common sense to realize that the more civilians are killed, especially children, the more people you alienate and enrage? People in that region of the world are reportedly prone to have a keen memory for past injustices. Unfortunately Obama and his future European "yes men" counterparts will adopt the same strategy of more troops, more fighting, and more alienation. I bet the Russians are shaking their heads in disbelief that history could so quickly repeat itself.

Following an investigation by their Assistance Mission for Afghanistan, the United Nations has announced that it is convinced that a minimum of 90 civilians were killed in Friday’s US airstrike in Herat Province. This number, they reported, included 60 children, and stands as one of the largest incidents of US-inflicted civilian casualties since the 2001 invasion.

WASHINGTON (AFP) - The US military said Monday that an attack by coalition forces in Afghanistan last week which allegedly killed dozens of civilians was a "legitimate" assault on Taliban forces.

"We continue at this point to believe that this was a legitimate strike against the Taliban," said Pentagon spokesman Bryan Whitman.
