That's really sad to hear and maybe instead of focusing on things that went wrong (noone, apart from the taliban, is happy or proud about civilian deaths), you should keep the bigger picture in mind and be aware of the fact that the struggle against the Taliban is a joint Afghan/Western affair.

Unhappily your hopes continue to be fullfilled and today just another German soldier died + 3 others were wounded in Afghanistan.
