Anyway I think your picture of the Taliban as a purely, local resistance group is far from the truth and thanks to the new Taliban tactical use of suicide bombers (unknown in Afghanistan before) they will for sure piss of the local population, just like it happened in Iraq and hopefully someone intelligent enough will be able to use that and bring the paschtuns back into the process and thus destroy the taliban in the long run.

The Taliban are of Pashtun origin. They are the largest ethinic group making 42% of the population.
They have alot of support in the eastern and southern provinces bordering pakistan since they are of the same origin as those tribes just across the border.
Read about how the taliban came about in the first place.
My point was, trying to get rid of them using invasion and force does not work, especially when they have support of the people. Killing afghani women and children does not help.
I do not support them as a regime, their way of governance sux,..but atleast afghanistan under their rule was stable. It was poor and backward etc sure...thats how afghanistan always been... infact that region is like that..... other countries are poor and backward too.... african countries etc.... they dont have the taliban there.
Anyway, are we talking regime change then? Well thats not the way to do it. Karzai has no support whatsoever and he is corrupted to the teeth.
To be honest, I dont kno what the hell Americans are wasting their time with in Afghanistan. There is no oil there and clearly their objective is not Al Qaeda, cos Al Qaeda is not in Afghanistan anymore.... and anyway Taliban's objective was never to attack America .... so what the hell is the US/Nato doing there again?
Bringing democracy and liberty to the people of afghanistan? Wont work.... and the reasons are obvious. I discussed this in details in previous threads.
