Good point and the reasons why you won’t hear McCain or Obama get populist on this is because, they all have dirt to cover up.

Excsue me, uhm Bush signed a bill, giving our the Treasury the power for a year to extend unlimited credit to or make equity purchases in both funds……in July.
As far as Palins statement, her phrasing was poor, Freddie and Fannie are federally chartered by the government to perform the lending they do. She probably should have said, we need to pop this balloon before it costs us more down the road….
I don’t think it’s a leap at all regards what will happen and in fact has happened as of today ie. the gov. stepping in and creating a conservatiship. This was pre ordained.
We all know that Freddie and Fannie were not going to be allowed to go down, and we all knew that sooner or later they would have to shed all their protections from strict gov. oversight, and we do need to make sure this is not going to poct us anymore than it already will, estimates are close to 700 Billion already.
