The Scots do maintain significant Norman influences in their cooking, and thus (in my experience) have very good food available in even the most rural areas. However the food of England does leave much to be desired, unless one looks to the ethnic foods imported from India and the like.

Re cuisine. The traditional british recipes are as good as any other, though poorly represented as they make poor take away food. We may not be known for our home grown cuisine but thats no matter as really the only other people across the world who are Id say are the spanish, french, italians and Indians.
