When it comes to politics, as we all know, perception is 95% of the fight. It doesn't matter whether McCain actually had a black mistress in 2000, it was the PERCEPTION of that given by rove+cronies that led to his failed presidential run in 2000 (he was far more popular in 2000 than he was in 2008, but got submarined by Rove's lies).
Palin is perceived to be an evangelical christian. Her quotes that our troops in Iraq are fighting a war for god (or whatever she said) is an example of this. She says our prayers will protect them, when in fact better armor or perhaps not sending them into an optional war would be a better strategy. Unlike bush who just gives lip-service to being a christian, Palin is a genuine die-hard christian. Maybe that sells her to some people, but to me its a turn-off. I want a president making decisions on FACTS not on some invisible buddy they talk to.
Palin came across HORRIBLY in the Couric interview. She can't name the newspapers she reads? She doesn't know what the role of the VP is? Once again, that is the PERCEPTION she gives whether she's actually that way or not.
Palin is for teaching more than just abstinence education, but because of remarks she has made about being pro-abstinence, the PERCEPTION is out there that her daughter getting pregnant was because of her own stupidity as a mother not teaching her daughter about condoms/the pill/etc.
Troopergate and housegate, whether they were founded in facts or not, give the PERCEPTION that she is just as corrupt, greedy, and power hungry as the 'corruption' she supposedly campaigned against. Once again, that is the PERCEPTION people get.
Even if most or all of those things are false, its hard for me to feel sorry for her being submarined by lies, as pretty much the GOP has taken lying to ridiculous levels under rove's tuteledge, with some help over the past 20 years by rush windbag. Its like feeling sorry for the boy who cries wolf every 5 minutes when the wolf finally does come eat him.
Don't get me wrong, I'm no dem sympathiser. I think Obama is failing because he's just continuing to follow established bush policies (which I hated), and the dems running congress are spinless douches who don't know how to actually exert some power once they get it (in complete contrast to republicans who know how to abuse the living fucking hell out of power whether they have it or not).
