I think the newer appliances ARE more efficient. When I moved here, I planned to use the washer and dryer the previous owner left until I got my floors redone. But the washer quit and, while it could be fixed, no part could be found for it. So I bought a washer/dryer set of those new front loaders.
I notice the washer to be very conservative with water.
And this isn't really about anyone needing 'your' money. It is about getting the economy going again and I personally like this better than handing trillions of dollars to companies for nothing but the process of handing them money.
And FYI: once money is paid to the government it is no longer 'your' money, it is considered the government's money.
