I am fortunate enough to get to visit Europe, Britain, and Ireland fairly frequently, and I never have a problem.

I also very much act like an American. I always wear ball caps, shorts, and white tennis shoes. When I get "dressed up", I wear cowboy boots.
My point is that I don't try to hide my Americanism and ALL of the people I have met have ALWAYS been nice.
Sounds like an overly simplistic victim-mentality AMerican trying to get some sort of lawsuit going.
Fortunately, I don't think the Brits are that sue-happy.
