The Associated Press -- SAN ANTONIO - A soldier assigned to Fort Hood has died of injuries he sustained during combat operations in Iraq, the Army said Monday.
Sgt. Luis A. Montes, 22, of El Centro, Calif., died Thursday at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio.
Montes was injured Sept. 1 in Abu Ghraib, Iraq, when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle.
He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 22nd Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division at Fort Hood.
