I tend to agree with WOI that you will not find many Americans responding to your questions. However being inquisative, but admitedly with little in the way of knowledge on this topic before tonight, I did some searching. Couple of things to ponder.
First researching the Vlaams Belang I found references to its admiration of the neocons in the US and specifically the Emterprise Institute and Heratige Foundation. I have yet to see either the Heritage Foundation or the American Enterprise Institute call for full and unconditional amnesty for people convicted for collaboration with Nazi Germany after WWII. Moreover it seems to me that the immigration poliices are different as well. From what I can gather Vlaams Belang want to force all economic immigrant who do not assimilate into Flemish culture and society to leave the area. American conservatives, even Tancredo, are only calling for the strengthening of the border and the removal of some of the illegals in this country, and that only applies to those here illegally. No American party that has any credence at all is calling for immigrants to be removed if they fail to assimilate into US society. We have far to much self confidence to worry about that. Moreover the only reason you hear for calls to make English the national language is because of the illegal issue. Once that has been addressed those calls will end.
I noted the the party wants to include Brussles into Flanders. Good luck with that considering 81% of the Brussels population is French speaking. Would they all be considered economic immigrants and subject to removal if they failed to change their language, which is what I assume they mean by assimilation. The party calls for much closer ties to Holland, while Vlaams Blok called for outright association with Holland before its demise.
Frankly I really don't care if Flanders becomes independant or not, it really will not affect me much either way. I do not see it happening though, but hey good luck I guess. One suggestion though. I really would not use Pat Buchanan as a source of inspiration were I you.
