But if one applies the same standard to both groups, and using Bush as an example, we can see that the degree to which someone has "experience" doesn't seem to be a huge barrier to becoming President. In the 2000 Presidential election, and looking at public service, Gore had 8 years as Vice-President and several terms as a Congressman as well as two terms as a US Senator, vs. Bush's 8 years as the governor of Texas.

Of course, using Bush as an example is a bit unfair. Yes, he's incompetent, but I don't think that any amount of previous experience would have helped raise his level of competence as President.

8 years as a gov. beats even 20 years in the senate or congress imho any day…...and that includes slick willie....despite his short coming’s.. ( and as garner said the VP pos. is like a pitcher of warm spit, useless to everyone)....that’s why there have only been 2 senators elected as presidents…most people see a sitting or former governor as a more reliable indicator than sitting on the senate…or being a congressman…despite your apparent dislike for Bush he didn’t do as badly as some as Gov. of Texas…
