Washington, D.C. (AHN) - The U.S. Department of State is warning Americans living or visiting the island of Montserrat to monitor volcanic activity, and return to America if the situation deteriorates further.
Renewed volcanic activity at the Soufriere Hills Volcano has prompted U.S. officials to "thoroughly consider the risks of travel to Montserrat, and to take adequate precautions to ensure their safety if they do travel."
"The Government of Montserrat has identified unsafe restricted areas, which include the south and eastern parts of Montserrat adjacent to the active volcano. Remaining or attempting to enter these zones is prohibited by the Government of Montserrat."
