Look we elect a President based on our nation; on our electoral system, our laws, our interests, same way Isral does for there's and every nation's people do based on their system and ways.
Nobody nation's leader apart from Tony Blair gives a rat's ass about "international laws". Bush doesn't, Ehud Ohlmert doesn't, Mahmuud Abaas doesn't, Putin, Asad, Chirac and Howard don't, Saddam didn't, no-one does. As for U.N. resolutions....err yeah 17 is usually enough for people to pay attention right? Even Annan doesn't expect people to pay attention to them anymore...
Really i mean let's lip this round....look at who the Palestinian's elected...real ethical to elect Hamas eh?
