I'd say there is a very good reason to if he still has a secret service escort. I know presidents keep the protection, I'm not sure about VPs.
But if a man has two armed guys who are going to be waived through the checkpoint
with their firearms seems kinda pointless to screen the guy they're with. Ex-Presidents don't go through security checkpoints, Ex-VPs not doing so either isn't exactly worrying.
