Electronic voting
could be very secure and efficient. The systems we are using in the US today are not.
What is needed, IMHO, is a standards based, open source effort. Take as an example the electronic gaming (gambling) industry. They have a technical association that develops standards for their machines, including interoperability and security. Electronic voting manufacturers could learn a lot from those guys.
