Many historians say that the Confederacy actually had a greater chance of winning the War Between the States than the Thirteen Colonies had of winning their rebellion against the Crown. Some say, however, that they should have opted for a long, guerilla like war. I am not sure about the latter theory, the Union had the advantage of more people and industries.
There are one major cause in favour of each side. The States of the Confederacy had the sovereign right to leave the Union. However, the States of the Union were correct in condemning the slavery of the South.
Over all, I would favour States' rights, especially if hearing Abe Lincoln talking about "one nation, undivided". However, if living in the North, I would not want to wage war against my own State but would try to stay out of the war. Maybe I would move north, to Canada (where they know how to spell

and have a monarch as Head of State

).
If living in my own home country, I would not necessarily take sides at all.
