It removes another reason for the destruction of fetuses and a serious depressing issue for Leftist Abortion proponents. It's a sad day for Planned Parenthood and the ACLU.

What is always dismissed is the fact that it has been adult stem cells that have been used in cures. Embryonic cells haven't revealed a thing in eight years of trying so funding has been cut by investors because it is a field come up dry. Adult stem cells have earned funding galore.

What an idiotic thing to say.

I know someone whose wife works for Planned Parenthood. Yes, she does abortion counseling. She's said, on more than one occasion, that she wishes there wasn't a need for her job.

She doesn't advocate abortion over carrying a pregnancy to term, but she also recognizes the importance of making sure women know what their options are, and what the ramifications are...

It is great news.
I read about this about a week ago and see no reason for it not to work.
It will also mean that more babies will be saved from being lab rats.

I may have to rephrase my statement that womb fluid stemcells aren't controversial enough to spark a discussion. I forgot that all it takes to spark a discussion is someone who doesn't know what the hell he's talking about.

At the risk of sounding redundant, I am extremely hopeful that this really pans out into something useful.

There wouldn't be if everybody would recognize the fact that abortion takes a human life for the "convenience" of the mother, making it into murder, thus making it illegal.

The truth is, abortion shouldn't be an option, why sentence the unborn child to be executed, when nothing that has happened in order to have gotten pregnant is the kids fault. I have seen the arguments for years and have yet to find one with any credibility.

Here in Missouri we had a ballot initiative called "stem cell research". It was a cloning bill, which unfortunately passed by a very slim margin. It was going to pass overwhelmingly before the truth came out that it was a cloning bill. It had very little if anything to do with stem cell research, but yet you had Micheal J. Fox lying in commercials for McKaskill and Ben Cardin saying that their opponents wanted to criminalize stem cell research (another lie). Just goes to show you, Liberals take somebody like Fox, and exploit his disease because they need a victim.

I have always been amused at the very concept of a technical solution to an ethical or political problem.

I doubt you'll find anything to discuss. It's just not controversial enough
You're probably right.

I should have thrown something in here about how these cells could be used in Israel to create a transgender clone of Bush with Jesus' DNA to run in the '08 election. That would probably have spiced it up. Oh well. Next time.
kinetic and/or Hank haven't seen this thread yet.
My ears started ringing and I thought I should check in.

Fetal stem cell research has its own power base. It never was about one being better then the other.

That story explains a great deal regarding yours and her moral values. I understand much better.

To say that this breakthrough marks a sad day for the ACLU and Planned Parenthood is, absolutely, idiotic. If you can show me where either one of those groups actively promotes abortion over birth in each and every instance of pregnancy, I might agree with you.

But you can't, because they don't...

How does it say anything about my morals? Am I now guilty by association? I know the woman, therefore, I have no morals?

She wishes that there was no need for her job. She cousels women on all possible avenues in case of pregnancy, and she tells them what they can expect based on which avenue they decide to take.

This, somehow, gives you insight into my morals??

You're gonna' need to explain how that's possible, because that was another pretty damn idiotic thing to say...

Well, the Supreme Court has had its' chances, and they've decided that it shouldn't be illegal.

Also, it's not always for "convenience". Oftentimes, it's for the health of the mother. To suggest that convenience is the only reason it's done is dishonest, unless you're willing to completely disregard the health of the mother.

So, tough...

Of course, this gets down to whether or not a person believes that a fetus is a child. I do not, clearly, you do. I respect that you hold that opinion, but I don't agree with it...

I remember the hubub over the whole affair, but I never read the text of the bill. Can you provide the text which clearly indicates that it's a "cloning" bill?

Why should we allow the Supreme Court to legislate? In reality their ruling on the matter does not pass Constitutional test, making this a state issue.

Hardly ever is the health of the mother a factor.

I'm sorry to hear that, but the child is alive from the miracle of conception on.

the text of the bill states the following taken from Missourians Against Human Cloning | Home
Quote:
Page 1 of the amendment says it bans cloning. But page 4 allows bio-tech special interests to clone human embryos through "Somatic Cell Nuclear Transfer" - the scientific definition for cloning and the method used to clone Dolly the sheep.
