Perhaps circumcision is so prevalent in the U.S., and many other countries with Religion shaping policy, is that to remain intact would require those daily cleanings to prevent infections.
No doubt these daily cleanings were subverted into something unholy in the eyes of Religion and that is why this the norm, accepted as necessary.
Christian religions generally have no opinion on circumcision. I'm not sure of other religions though.

Two basic reasons:

1) The foreskin tends to get slightly abraded during intercourse. These abrasions are more susceptible to infection by viruses.

2) The inside layer of the foreskin is moist epithelial tissue, not keratinized epithelium. As a result, it's less resistant to particles (like viruses) crossing the barrier.

Re: WHO recommends male circumcision

In Europe we don't cut off bits from babies penises and we seem to be doing just fine.
As for the hygiene thing, people should take showers,
and practice safe sex anyway. No reason to hit babies where it hurts the most.
Circumcision doesn't give any excuse not to take care of ones hygiene.

If you want to do it because of cultural reasons or smth you might want to wait until the person can make up his own mind about it.

This from a woman who's never even seen an uncircumsized penis.

How would you know it makes the sex better? Without actually having one, you really couldn't know...

Re: WHO recommends male circumcision

Circumcision shouldn't be mandatory, nor should the practice be completely stopped.

-BUT-

Parents who want their sons "snipped" should be given no grief about it...

Do you ever read a fucking thread before you post? This is the second time today you've posted without the benefit of a fucking clue as to what you're posting about...

I was just thinking the same thing.
I had to reread it twice because I thought I missed something.

I disagree. This should only be done IF the child wants it done, and when the child is old enough to make a decision about it. No-one has the right to snip off a part of someone's body without that person's prior consent.

What about other procedures which require a doctor? If the kid gets the measles, should we insist that the kid reach the age of consent before doing anything about it? How about chicken pox? A broken leg?

No, of course we wouldn't. And why wouldn't we? Because parents have the absolute right to make decisions concerning their minor children, that's why...

Those are different in that the kid's health would be harmed, however, foreskin never hurt anyone.

That's a ridiculous way to put things. Does a parents have an absolute right to cut a child's finger off? Nose? Arm? Why, or why not?

And when, exactly, was the last time you were asked to perform a circumcision?

You aren't doing anything...

So much anger. So little direction.

Maybe you'd benefit from some counseling.

Actually, they don't. There's a fair amount of case law that backs up the state's ability to intervene when parents' decisions end up hurting the child.
