Not so much. Personally, I think it wouldn't be an issue if Islam weren't a "hot button" proposition. Imagine if, instead of Muslims, some band of weirdos were lobbying for foot washing stations in the KC airport. We would probably be discussing this in the "Just for Fun" section and laughing about how some people are just weird.

The big white elephant that has yet to be mentioned in this thread is that allowing Muslims to bathe their feet in public restrooms (or whatever particular superstition they're on board with) is a statement, by proxy, legitimizing Islam. Isn't that really what we're getting at here - whether or not a "foreign religion" should be recognized?
frankly the issue is an aclu favorite...come on now...each and every time there’s a creche or something like it put up on gov. property and/or at gov. expense, they raise the issue as a banner regards Christian fundos, polluting the atmosphere with religious idiom.......these foot baths are a religious rite..so where are they now?

There is a practical side, too.

It's a busy day at the airport, the men's room is in demand. There is a line for the urinals, when someone notices a floor-level urinal....

Accidentally, or deliberately, I suspect these things will see far more pee than feet.

You mean, you'd love for them to see more pee than feet.

Hey, but who am I to stop a grown man from looking at more pee than feet.

Seriously, this is something so totally meaningless I don't even see why someone would start a thread on it. Hey, you don't wish to wash your feet, fine, but let others do so if they want to for Chrissake.
Actually, that's kind of cool. I'm starting to wish that my local bar offered such a service for when I pop in after being on my feet all day. That sounds downright refreshing!

Your post just made me thing of the Cubs offering "foot washing stations" at Wrigley. People already piss in the sinks there during the later innings... I have to imagine that you're right about how such things would be used...

Heh - foot massage is very common all over the Far East, and not just in airports.

More importantly, you have a nubile young girl performing the massage in most cases ... (see avatar)

Personally, I'm not that interested in "foot" massage (it sort of increases the distance between me and the lady, if you get my drift), but I love the body massages.

When I need to to interpret for me, I'll ring you. Until such time, kindly speak for yourself.

Re: Muslim foot-washing basins in airport restrooms

Nope - I'll never have a need for it. But thanks anyway.

You might note that drgoodtrips came up with a similar conclusion in re people pissing in the foot basins in post # 21. Do you have some retarded comment for him as well, or am I just especially lucky today?

Silly remarks aside, your the one thats constantly engaging in put downs when it comes to Muslims asking for anything, not him. Sorry, but that's the truth.

To be honest, I think you can make your points far better without resorting to such foolishness.

Re: Muslim foot-washing basins in airport restrooms

Where - apart from responding to your arrogant "interpretation" did I engage in any "put-downs"?

I merely said that:

1. If the airport is taxpayer funded it should not be building special facilities to accommodate any particular religion; and
2. That in a busy airport, people will probably urinate in them.

So please, kindly show where that was a "put-down".

Matt

The remarks about the basins being used as urinals was a subtle putdown.

Further, I'm sure you remember the other thread where you said "Allah would be proud of his followers!".

Look, I agree with you on some things that are stupid (example would be Muslims refusing to serve pork at a supermarket or picking up passengers who carry liqor in their suitcases) - but IMO, if they want foot basins in airports, well, let 'em have it - EVEN if Islam dictated they should be washing their feet before prayer, which it does not, how the heck would it bother you anyway??

No, it isn't. Perhaps you fail to understand that (as drgoodtrips noted) when things get crowded, some uncouth members of our society tend to piss in whatever is available.

It's not a putdown, it is a comment on what actually happens.

It bothers me only to the extent that I oppose the use of public places and public funds to make special accommodations for any specific religion. I would be just as opposed if the Catholics were requesting a font for holy water for blessings prior to flying.

Well, maybe it wasn't a putdown then.

Peace.
