I hope you understand that you are using prejudice to form your opinion.

I'll base my opinions of those living in the North on some Yankee fans I know. Alright then - everyone in the North is a complete douchebag. I'll base my opinions of everyone living in California on those people I see on TV and hear about in the news. Aright then - everyone in California is certifuckinfiably nuts and needs to be locked up. I'll base my opinions of people in the Midwest on the people I have read about in Kansas, who don't believe evolution is real and want to see creationism taught in schools. Alright then - everyone in the Midwest is a complete idiot, I'll make sure to scan future teachers and make sure they aren't from that area. See how much sense that all made? Absolutely none.

Re: Jena 6
Leave it you, Pram, to mess things up for me. We have a nice kid as an intern at work...a real gem. I was all ready to think everyone in CO is pretty great, but then you reminded me you are from CO. Thanks a lot.

Re: Jena 6
LMAO @ both of you.
We are kind of screwed up. We have no accent. We have some remarkably conservative areas, and yet one of the most whacked-out bastions of liberalism ever. Other than Columbine, our only other claims to fame are the Air Force Academy, Focus on the Family (both in Co. Springs), and students rioting because they couldn't drink under age. Go figure.

Re: Jena 6
Racism will always be a problem, or as long as people make it one. After all it's a state of mind that has no basis in reality. That being said, those who are indeed racist are clearly becoming a minority in their own right. Or at the least they're shutting up about it because its become taboo to insult or prejudge anybody. Whether a political correct America is a good thing though, I dunno.
Anyway, I'm getting off topic. In the case of the Jena 6, they should be punished accordingly to the crimes that they have committed. No more, no less. Of that I would say most people agree on, the problem is that there are about 10 different views of this story. From the mother who proclaims complete innocence of her boy, to the side who says they should be punished just not for attempted murder and etc. People will always find reasons to hate each other, and if we run out the human race will surely invent some more. Though you have to remember that it wasn't long ago that people rioted in LA over racisms (In which case 32 people lost their lives, of almost every race in the world). So no doubt even though it's the 21st century, its still an issue and always will be. Personally part of the problem is that we see ourselves as black or white in the first place, first most we should count ourselves as the same species, human. |

Re: Jena 6
No, partofme, I've never denied that the south has a worse history because I know better. I was in grade school when segregation started here and was pulled out of public school because of it. My dad didn't like the idea of the government busing black children in to meet a quota nor did he like the idea of his children going to school with them. Thankfully, Dad changed his mind in later years and is no longer the prejudiced person he once was. It's the same for many in this area. We intermingle with blacks on a daily basis, and many of the younger generation are in interracial relationships. So while we may have racial roots, we're changing all the time and it's time the rest of the country recognizes that.

Re: Jena 6
I think I'm a better authority on the south then since I've lived here for almost 47 years.

Re: Jena 6
It goes both ways. Due to your attachments you may be blinded , conciously or unconciously, to the problems of the region. I'm not saying you are though.
