Republican Mayor of San Diego Sanders Comes Out in Support of Gay Marriage

Forgive me if this is a duplication of another thread, I didn't see one.

This is a very pragmatic Republican, and I only hope his example will be followed by more Republicans and Democrats alike.

A Republican Who Likes Gays

An example of an American who is willing to do what is right, where are the rest of them?

"Shake off all the fears of servile prejudices, under which weak minds are servilely crouched. Fix reason firmly in her seat, and call on her tribunal for every fact, every opinion. Question with boldness even the existence of a God; because, if there be one, he must more approve of the homage of reason than that of blindfolded fear."

That's the beauty of democracy, it gives people nice jobs that they don't want to lose, even if it means scrapping their ideology to do what the people actually want.

Re: Republican Mayor of San Diego Sanders Comes Out in Support of Gay Marriage

This was big news in San Diego.

I applaud him.

It's clear to me that he considered the pros and cons. It's clear to me that he put what's "right" ahead of what's politically expedient.

If he runs for re-election, he'll likely lose because of this. It says a lot about his character as a person, though, that he's willing to do the right thing, regardless of how it's likely to effect his political career in the future...
