Re: Hispanic Parenting, can you enlighten me?
I have never been to Mexico and don't care to go, so I cannot say, but have observed some of the same. Kids will be kids, as far as being more firm in public, thats a good one, I have no idea if its a cultural thing.

Let me see, the wife and I went to dinner at a new place close by called Spectators, a francise (sp?) I think. (I highly recommend their Cajin chicken pasta dish, excellent!) While I didn't hear a word of Spanish, I did hear and see many kids being obnoxious as can be. Now I didn't check IDs, but there really aren't a whole lot of Hispanics living in this area North of the Twin Cities. So is it a "cultural thing?" Dunno, but I'd lean more towards a "generational thing" thing myself, as I don't think that kind of behaviour would have been tolerated when we were kids. |

I suppose that I should have simplified it to "disporportionate number of shitty parenting occurences by race". That is what I am seeing.

Re: Hispanic Parenting, can you enlighten me?
I have been to Mexico several times as my wife is Mexican - thus her entire family is there.
Mexicans are more family oriented than we are...and are proud of who they are and what they do. You have to remember, many Hispanics you see in America are the worst of Mexicans in general. |

Re: Hispanic Parenting, can you enlighten me?
It is true. I have met many many true Mexicans - their family culture is one of reverence for the family elders, indeed the oldest family member is treasured every bit as much as it's newest. Not forgotten and abandoned in a nursery home like here.
Frankly we could learn from Mexican culture, I will be as bold to say what you are seeing is how our culture is affecting theirs - not the other way around. |

Re: Hispanic Parenting, can you enlighten me?
well - this will sound like a broken record - but nevertheless true - unfortunately, in general, we place material possessions and the ability to get them and mor eof them - above pretty much everyhting else - including each other.
