Spank You Very Much
I was just reading a story on a new bill about to be introduced in Canada's Parliament. It is an anti-spanking bill.
While I have known for some time there are people trying to stop the use of spanking as a punishment for children, what I didn't know that this will be at least the 10th time anti-spanking legislation has been proposed in Canada. Yet, the anti-spanking lobby continues its efforts to remove this useful tool for dealing with two-year-old tyrants. (Senator Celine Hervieux-Payette's bill S-207 is at least the 10th attempt since 1980.) Parental rights becoming child's play Meanwhile, the UK is discussing implanting their prisoners with microchips and US cities are putting up surveilance cameras in record numbers. RFID tags in many products, GPS in cars, microchip tracking in all phones, we are witnessing the DEATH of privacy. I don't know about others here, but for me, the threat of a good whooping prevented me from doing a few stupid, dangerous things when I was young. Not that I didn't do any stupid, dangerous things, but I was more selective in which stupid, dangerous things I chose to do. I have seen many young children say "NO" to their parents. I could not count how many times I have seen this and heard it. If I had said "NO" to my dad in the same tone as some of these kids today, I have little doubt what the result would have been. A good old fashioned spanking. With the death of privacy we are seeing a birth, the birth of the super nanny state, in which the government will make all of your decisions for you and you won't have to worry about a thing, not even thinking. |

Re: Spank You Very Much
I've never experienced any threat of a "good spanking" and I was always more selective in which stupid, dangerous things I chose to do. On the other hand, I frequently got beat up by my older brothers but that never stopped me from harrassing them and thereby deserving yet a beating. Guess it's a complex world.
Anyhow, there seems to be two different topics here, - the nanny-state and the effect of spanking. The first may borrow from the latter while the latter has very little to do with the former, per se. |
