Re: Legalizing steroid use a good idea

Greetings and Felicitations,

Aaaah. The arrogance of the baseline human in thinking that the use of artificial means to improve performance will be stopped.

That being said. I am an avid transhumanist and I realize the people will use a means to improve themselves despite any laws to the contrary. What is going to happen when genetic modication becomes a part of the solution? You might think this is stretching the idea a bit far but the time is rapidly approaching.

Get used to the idea that baseline humanity is quickly getting to be a thing of the past.

Sincerely Yours,
C. David Neely

One must be physically ill to obtain any number of drugs, many with considerably less side effects and as a nurse, I'm all for the FDA setting the guidelines. Steroids weren't developed to be used long term or for performance enhancement but idiots saw the benefits and gave no heed to the dangers. Any type of steroid should be administered by a physician so careful monitoring can be done, including routine blood tests. A "sports trainer" is in no way a physician and anyone who would trust them over a doctor is terribly stupid.
Anyway, I'm glad the sport associations have clamped down on their use!

And that's the problem, at least to anyone who genuinely supports individual liberty.

So should we also restrict fast food, since it's long-term effects can be deadly?

It is still their business, stupid or not. There are many activities I consider stupid, but I do not support banning them since it is a personal decision that does not affect me.

Anabolic steroids are generally needless in real medical terms (there is a huge difference between anabolic ones and the rest).

And Human Growth hormones ? My kid has a friend who was on this therapy for years because she was a premmie and VERY small. It helped some but she's just going to be a very petite girl (her mom and grandma are also petite, luck of the draw).

No, they aren't needless. They are used to treat aplastic an hyperplastic anemia.

Prohibition should have taught us about the dangers of thinking that we can change human behavior simply by passing laws.

Education will help to stop people from using things that hurt them, but even then, some people are still going to use them.

In terms of sports athletes, I could care less what they do to their bodies since they have to answer for it on their own and suffer the consequences of their own actions.

Re: Legalizing steroid use a good idea

Steroids are illegal because the government likes fat, lazy, scared citizens that are too brainwashed to fight back.

Do steroids have a downside? Yes, a very small one. Are those downsides overblown in the Press? Absolutly.

High school kids should not use them, nor should they be allowed in Olympic type activities. But grown ass men, playing a game to entertain you, should be allowed to pump whatever they want into their bodies.

So you think any and all medications should be available OTC? That may sound like supporting individual liberties to you but it sounds like stupidity to me. The average person knows very little about Rx medications such as indications, contraindications, adverse reactions and dosages and therefore self-medication of these drugs could prove fatal. I'm all for personal responsibility but when something requires more knowledge to use than the average person possesses, then it should be left to the trained professionals.

You're not trained in the field of medicine, are you?

Actually, what you're saying is LICENSED professionals, since licenses determine what is and is not allowed. Ultimately, it's none of your business what people eat/drink/inject, even if it kills them. Don't you believe in the right to suicide?

Nonsense.

I have to wonder; do you think an athlete should be permitted to do whatever he can to keep another competitor from competing? If there's a superior athlete in the same competition, should he slip something into his rival's food which would make him ill in the name of "doing whatever it takes to win", and should that be okay?

Or pulling a Tonya Harding seems to be OK with her, too.
