Somehow, I don't think the NFL is an equal opportunity employer.

Re: Philly, bastion of racism
Wow.
So,... The media calls Obama's Presidency a start of a Post-Racial America. I guess these black kids should be told that white kids hopping out of the pool when they get in is just a part of being raised in "Post-racial America". Gotcha. I guess the message this sends to kids of such an age is secondary or of little importance in "Post racial America". Crystal clear. Refunding money to ease the humiliation of this situation for the parents and kids of their troubles of having the "wrong" complexion for the atmosphere is "okay" because, hey, at least they got some money, right? Post-Racial. Sure. |

Re: Philly, bastion of racism
Isn't it obvious?
There are a lot of Maude R. Fockers, on this very site even, that love to comfort themselves and claim how America is so far removed from racism and the mere mention of it is preposterous and how people keep "bringing race into things unwarranted" are racist and other such nonsense and yet many people, like myself, know the truth of the matter to be otherwise. In fact, sir, race issues and racism is quite alive and well. The topic of this thread and even the recent MJ death controversy even showcases that. But I bet you don't see it that way. You don't want to. Its all good though.

Re: Philly, bastion of racism
*Sigh*
The point here is not whether the government or a private person owns the pool. The point is that we're supposed to be in some sort of 'post-racial' society as the news media would have us believe, yet in instances like this it is clear that attitudes of minority inferiority are still cemented enough in the minds of those that they would deny them service on such a grand scale. The problem is what the parents have to explain to their black children about why they were denied membership, why white kids were taught to hop out of the pool when they got in, and why we can have a black President but still have people with the power to tell black kids they're not swimming in the same pool as white kids. The point is that we're told that "the race card" gets pulled all too often by minorities and America's "past racism" when it clearly isn't. The problem is a discrepancy between rhetoric and reality. |
