Another colossal waste of taxpayer and privately donated money.

The Young Men's Initiative was first reported by The New York Times on Wednesday. The mayor's office called it the nation's "boldest and most comprehensive effort to tackle the broad disparities slowing the advancement of black and Latino young men" in a statement.

It will include job placement, fatherhood classes and training for probation officers and school staff on how to help the young men get ahead. More than a dozen city agencies will be involved.

The program will target about 315,000 black and Latino men between the ages of 16 and 24.

Bloomberg is set to announce the program at a community breakfast on Thursday.

By the time they are 16 it is too late - they have already chosen their path. Fatherhood classes and training for probation officers? Why not add a handgun marksmanship coarse to improve their chances of surviving a gang fight? Its seems to me you need to reach these young men much earlier than sixteen.

One key component will be an overhaul of the Department of Probation, which supervises nearly 30,000 New Yorkers, most of whom are black and Latino males, according to the mayor's office. The department will open five satellite offices in neighborhoods with high populations of at-risk youth, with the aim of connecting men on probation to work and educational opportunities and reducing recidivism.

So the bulk is going to the Dept of Probation - so they can connect these young men with work and educational opportunities. My obvious question is: What in the hell are these probation offices doing now? They require more money to do their job? Are they unionized? (just a question?)

Another $25 million will expand Jobs-Plus, which works with residents of public housing projects.

The mayor will issue an executive order barring city agencies from creating unnecessary barriers to city jobs for applicants from criminal convictions.

Yes, fast-track the felon's into high paying city jobs. That ought to buy you the black and hispanic vote for another cycle or two.

I have a better idea. How much would it cost to convince these young men that they are asian . . . then they would get even better than average grades and move on to above average income in adulthood. Problem solved.

Good heaven's think of what that money could do if it was left in the hand's of small businessmen and working people!! I gurantee you that at this time next year they will be hiring more probation officer's because when you throw money at criminal's they will create more crime with it. I'm sure San Francisco and Taxachusetts will pick up on this brilliant idea to.

Plus I'll bet that these miscreants will learn more about fatherhood in church then they will on some stupid goverment program and that wont cost taxpayer's a dime. Last I checked black's and "latino's" whatever you call hispanic's these days have capable brain's and hand's but people with a weak moral fiber will not use what God has given them constuctively unless they have guidance from God. Duh.
