I can see that NC can set it's own guidelines with respect to who is allowed to have their marriage sanctioned by the the state of NC.
I can even see that they can refuse to recognize the same sex marriages of NC citizens performed by other states.
I can see where they can refuse to recognize civil unions (and there goes the separate but equal argument).
But how they can only recognize some marriages sanctioned by other states, but not others, seems to be an equal protection problem.
If the marriage was perfectly legal when performed.
That seems to be a full faith and credit issue as well.

Why don't you apply equal protection for economic issues as well? Why is it OK to invoke it in this case but not in others?
